PRETORIA - Suspended National Police Commissioner General Bheki Cele told Eyewitness News he has not heard from President Jacob Zuma regarding the outcome of his inquiry.

On Wednesday, the City Press reported that three sources have told the newspaper that Cele was relieved of his duties.

A source has also confirmed this to Eyewitness News.

According to a report leaked to the media in May, the board of inquiry recommended that Cele be dismissed for maladministration.

But the suspended commissioner said he has not heard from Zuma.

Speaking to Eyewitness News, a source close the investigation revealed that the president decided to fire Cele.

Presidential spokesperson Mac Maharaj denied that any decision has been made.

The Cele inquiry was launched following Public Protector Thuli Madonsela’s damning report into the controversial police headquarters deal.

She found that officials acted improperly in the acquisition of the Durban and Pretoria properties.

Late in 2011, President Jacob Zuma appointed Judge Jake Moloi to head the inquiry.
